This is my first sketch from the reportage project, I chose to represent Avon Beach, Christchurch for the project, I wanted to capture the "Great British Summer" in my work and produce a series of postcards portraying it. I felt that Avon Beach was stuck in time and hadn't been particularly modernized or americanized and i felt it captured the spirit of what I love about England and the "Great British Summer". It was quite old fashioned and I was surrounded by scenes of families enjoying the beach and old couples walking together. Here I have used water colour for this sketch of a man sat reading a paper on the beach. I have tried to make it look atmospheric with my use of brushstrokes and mark-making.
